Design Phase: Your Glass Wall Interiors Questions Answered

We understand that when you choose to overhaul your workspace and incorporate glass wall interiors, you’ll have questions. At MetroWall, we want to provide as much value to our readers and customers as we can, and so we’ve decided to put together a brief FAQ to help you get started as you consider whether or not MetroWall and our products are the right fit for your commercial project.

1. I want glass partitions in my office space. What are my options?

We offer a breadth of glass wall interiors that are highly customizable (frame finishes, glazing types, hardware, door types, frame profiles, mullion details, etc). Our team recommends a discovery meeting to review the options and hear about your goals for the project. Which system and customizations are right for you depend on your design intent and your client’s needs. But here’s a 50K snapshot of our systems and some of the benefits:

  • ENDURE Series: This system is built for high-traffic environments. Think healthcare, financial institutions, and education. The system offers single and double glazing, an STC of 51, and can support walls up to 14 feet!
  • HUSH Series: This system offers a 50 STC rating and allows you to future-proof a space. Not only can the HUSH seamlessly transition back and forth between single and double glazing, but it can also be easily upgraded. So if you initially decided on a single-glazed partition and decide you need or want a double-glazed one, we can add a second pane of glass.
  • VETRO Series: If you need versatility, the VETRO is the way to go. It’s a single-glazed system that is compatible with all opening and door types.
  • LP Series: If you’re looking for a more minimal look, this system is for you. The LP Series’ bottom track is less than an inch wide and high, making it one of the smallest profiles on the market.
  • EXTEND Series: This system is the solution for flexibility. This operable wall allows end users to quickly reconfigure their space. But unlike many operable walls, the EXTEND uses a floor track, and that means you can save on engineering costs.
  • DG Series: This system is a high acoustic performer with a 50 STC rating. This is a favorite in EDU environments.

2. I’m not sure what I want. Can you help with design inspiration?

Absolutely! Our experts can help to translate your ideas (no matter how vague) into a design using our premium glass wall interiors. Through Revit Files, drafting details, case studies, and R&D, we’ll use our industry knowledge and construction expertise to transform your workspace and come up with something unique to your business. We also have a showroom in Manhattan. You can book an appointment any time to meet with a rep and get a tour of our showroom!

3. How much will a glass wall from MetroWall cost?

The cost will vary depending on which options you choose to include, but typical costs start at a few hundred dollars per linear foot and can climb over $1,000 per linear foot. There are a large number of factors to consider that will influence the cost, such as glass types, door functions, hardware selections, finish selections and more. A MetroWall representative can help you find a configuration that fits within your budget.

4. Do you survey the site?

Yes. Our proprietary process allows us to handle everything from the design phase through the installation phase and beyond. Our seasoned project consultants can survey the site with you during the design stages. But we don’t walk away after a sale is made. Once you specify MetroWall, the project is handed off to our project management team who will conduct thorough field measurements and check in regularly with the GC to ensure our glass wall interiors are going to be installed properly and on time.

5. How long will it take to deliver your glass wall interiors? I have a tight deadline to meet.

Our domestic supply chain and manufacturing gives us an edge when it comes to delivering on tight timelines. We offer competitive 3-4 week lead times for standard glass wall interiors (~12 weeks for the EXTEND Series). If you have a highly custom project, the lead time can vary, but we always aim to deliver the highest quality product as quickly as possible.

6. I’m designing a new workspace and want to be sure that everything discussed at the initial design makes it through to installation. How can I ensure details won’t get missed along the way?

Like we mentioned earlier, our integrated process makes us a one-stop shop for all things glass wall interiors. When a project moves into build out we don’t hand off the project to external dealers or glaziers. We handle everything and all of our installers are trained and certified to work with our products.

7. What are “hold to” dimensions? Does MetroWall use them?

In basic terms, “hold to” dimensions are measurements that are established as benchmarks and agreed to by all parties to perform their work, such that the end result matches the “hold to” dimensions. We don’t use them because we don’t need to. Every project has a Project Superintendent who will come to the site to verify each opening to ensure there is little room for error. The Superintendent will also work closely with carpenters and other trades on-site.

Our flexible lead times mean we don’t go into pre-production as early as our competitors, so we can work to exact specifications.  Having said that, if needed, we can coordinate hold dimensions as well.
